Where to buy soccer jerseys in Johannesburg (Thrift guide)

20 May 2026

South Africa is a sporting nation through and through, and with the FIFA World Cup running from Thu, Jun 11 – Sun, Jul 19 2026 and Mzansi kicking off the tournament in the opening match against Mexico, the hype is already building fast. Just in time for first whistle, we’ve rounded up spots in Joburg where you can track down and thrift retro and vintage soccer jerseys and rep whatever team you’re backing in style.

1. Q8 Thrift Store

With football fever getting hotter, Q8 Thrift Store is a goldmine for thrifted soccer jerseys. From national teams to club classics, chances are you’ll find something worthy of your World Cup allegiance. Expect rails packed with vintage football finds, plus winter jackets sturdy enough for those icy Joburg match nights. Jerseys range from around R350 – R900, depending on how rare the find is.

A proper hole-in-the-wall find in Parkhurst, CLT'R Collectors is the kind of place you could easily drive past if you didn’t know better. Inside, though, is a seriously extensive collection of retro soccer jerseys. From club to country, home kits to away shirts and even the occasional third kit gem, it’s a football fan’s dream for collectors who like their jerseys with a little history and a lot of style.

If you’re hunting for a retro soccer jersey without trekking across Joburg, Rosebank Sunday Market is one of the easiest places to start. Vendors like Kitted SA and Champion Plug ZA have a 16 rail stand filled packed with vintage football shirts from across the globe, alongside newer World Cup jerseys, with prices usually ranging from R350 – R1 500 depending on rarity and condition. Just a few steps away, JD Sports adds even more football fashion to the mix, making this stretch of the market feel like a mini match-day paradise for footie fans. The market’s fashion stalls are always worth a browse, but it’s the Dress For Less section on the first two Sundays of the month that’s especially good for thrift and vintage finds.

5. ThriftyWays

Not just soccer but cricket, rugby and plenty of other sporting loyalties get their moment too, with England national team shirts and more at ThriftyWays. Photo: ThriftyWays via Instagram.

If your sports obsession spills well beyond soccer, ThriftyWays in Greenside is worth the dig. Alongside retro soccer jerseys, you’ll find NBA basketball tops, NFL merch and plenty of sportswear extras, from jackets to caps, basically a one-stop shop for dressing like it’s game day somewhere in the world. Prices generally range from R350 – R1 000, depending on the piece and the level of sporting nostalgia attached to it.

6. Dunusa Market

Of the three well-known Dunusa Markets, De Villiers Street Clothing is arguably one of the most recognised spots for second-hand finds. The market’s familiar hustle and bustle shifted in November 2025, when it moved indoors and is now located inside the buildings along De Villiers Street.

Inside, you’ll find what might just be the cheapest soccer jerseys in the city, no authenticity guarantees, but plenty of character. Racks are packed with all kinds of football shirts in different sizes, with prices starting as low as R20, making it a proper treasure hunt for anyone building a World Cup-ready wardrobe on a budget.

A disclaimer:
When setting out to shop the Dunusa market, dress comfortably, leave your valuables at home, and bring cash in smaller denominations. Be vigilant and hold bags close to your body. It's best to head to the Dunusa in the morning, and the inner city is also often less hectic on the weekend.

If you’re after a more stylish way to back Bafana Bafana, Kasi Flavour 10 brings football nostalgia and street style together beautifully. Founded by Kabelo Kungwane and inspired by the swagger of his father, former Kaizer Chiefs player, Isaac "Shakes" Kungwane, the brand celebrates South African football culture through fashion, photography and design. There are knitted Bafana jerseys and mesh tops to reworked fanwear that feels more fashion week than stadium merch.

Old School is also adding a nostalgic nod, teaming up with the South African Football Association on a limited run of knitted Bafana Bafana T-shirts inspired by the iconic ’90s kits that still live rent-free in local football memory.
