The legacy and work of two landmark South African contemporary artists – Sydney Kumalo and Ezrom Legae – is receiving a fresh focus at Strauss & Co. The auction house, who have consistently sought to raise the profile of formerly overlooked South African artists have created an incredible exhibition and an opportunity to familiarise yourself with the work of these two artists. Both were cruelly denied the prominence their work deserved because at the time in which they were working, apartheid ruled South Africa.

As part of this focus on these two artistic giants, Strauss & Co. has published The Sculptures of Sydney Kumalo and Ezrom Legae, a comprehensive record of all the known sculptures created by these two remarkable artists from the mid-20th century. The tribute exhibition is a celebration of this.

The exhibition features an awe-inspiring collection of 92 sculptures by Kumalo and Legae (that have been sourced from private collectors for the purposes of this exhibition), providing an opportunity for visitors to admire their exceptional talent and immense creativity. The showcased works include 60 sculptures by Kumalo and 32 sculptures by Legae, featured in the book's detailed catalogue.

The exhibition features walkabouts every Wed until Jul 19 between 11:00 – 12:00 by Strauss & Co. specialists. Other highlights include:
