The creativity of South African and French comics converge in this huge exhibition of contemporary and classic comics and graphic novels. Exploring themes related to history, folklore, science fiction, autobiography and augmented reality the exhibition includes works by an array of African artists including Loyiso Mkize (author of African superhero series Kwezi), Mogorosi Motshumi (author of the graphic novel autobiography The Initiation) and Luke Molver (the artist who drew the 1980s comic strip Sloppy).

French artists taking part in the exhibition include cartoonist, comic artist and film director Riad Sattouf (formerly at Charlie Hebdo and author of The Secret Life of Teenagers), Pénélope Bagieu who has a popular illustrated blog called My Life Is Fascinating and award-winning comic book author and publisher Lewis Trondheim.

The Art of Comics also shows the work of comic book artists and animators who have venture into new technologies and innovative virtual reality formats. Complementing the exhibition is a rich programme of workshops and film screenings led by South African and French experts.

Jardim-Wedepohl and an exhibition walkabout at 11:00.
Sep 25 - 27 During the school holidays look out for comics-making workshops at the gallery led by local illustrators.
