The Orient Boutique Hotel and its multi-award-winning restaurant Mosaic headed by Chef Chantel Dartnall, were long one of Gauteng's most special boutique hotel destinations. Sadly in early 2021 the family-owned hotel and restaurant closed and the family have since relocated to France to restore a French chateau that will in time be the location of the new Mosaic restaurant.

Bottles from Mosaic's incredible wine cellar have already gone on auction and now items from the hotel's extraordinary collection of antiques and period furniture are on sale in a unique online auction hosted by Stephan Welz auction house.

The hybrid live-online auction takes place on January 24 and 25 streamed live from the Stephan Welz auction house. The online auction is also open to 'auto-bids' and absentee bids and the packed online catalogue is already garnering serious interest. You can view the full auction catalogue and register to bid online at swelco.co.za.

The exclusive Orient sale features an unusual and enticing array of items from this prestigious establishment, ranging from period furniture, including day beds, antique bureaus, dining chairs, armoirs and dressers, to luxurious tableware made by some of the finest names in ceramics from Chef Chantel Dartnall's acclaimed restaurant.

Anybody who ever had the privilege to visit The Orient will no doubt remember the hotel's opulent interiors.  A luxuriously furnished mix of north African, Mughal and Arabic influences, plonked in the middle of what was once farmland, a stay at The Orient always felt like being whisked away to an exotic palace far far away.

In addition to period furniture from the hotel, scores of eye-catching decorative pieces are also on offer, ranging from Art Nouveau glass lamps and decorative Arabic bronze vases to glazed Chinese porcelain jars, Middle Eastern incense burners and intricate oriental woven baskets, not to mention the antique books and elegant statuettes.

The auction takes place live online on Mon Jan 24 and Tue Jan 25 and the full catalogue can now be viewed at swelco.co.za where you can also register to bid online. For more information and enquiries call +27 11 880 3125 or email support@swelco.co.za.
