The Giant is Falling is a documentary film that pricks at the growing inequality that is jeopardising the current status quo in South Africa and in particular charts the deepening political divides facing the ruling ANC party. The work of confrontational filmmaker Rehad Desai, who also made the award winning Marikana documentary, Miners Shot Down, this film travels through two years of major political events that have shaken the ANC including the FeesMustFall movement and the party's defeats in the 2016 provincial elections. Desai's view is that these events, coupled with South Africa's desperate economic divides, herald the dying days of the ANC's rule in South Africa.

Given the current political crisis facing the ruling party following President Zuma's controversial cabinet shuffle (dubbed by South African press as 'the night of the long knives'), this is a particularly pertinent time to watch Desai's controversial film.
