With enchanting music composed by Volley Nchabeleng that has been tailored for the young ones (this production is aimed at kids from seven years old and up, although younger audiences will enjoy it too), the play is skillfully directed by award-winning playwright Omphile Molusi.
Added to the mix is the renowned Kwasha Theatre Company, who are joined by seasoned actors Sanelisiwe Yekani and Siyambonga Mdubeki.
Talabalushis are elusive, mischievous creatures lurking in South Africa's forests, believed to embody a blend of goblin, spirit and tree creature.
The story will transport you into the depths of the Knysna forest with protagonist, Tokkie, a terrified young Talabalushi who has his family at their wits' end with his fears of everything, especially the light. This poses a significant issue since he's meant to be out there scaring other people. Join him on an adventure in which he finds his courage.
The play has earned a spot in the ASSITEJ South African leg of the African Playwriting Competition.
Playwright Megan Choritz describes her collaboration with Molusi as a creative jackpot. “I had the best and most productive time with Omphile. What a gift, to work with him. He is thoughtful, kind, brilliantly clever, naughty and fun. He has helped me turn The Terrified Talabalushi into such a delightful text and I know it will grow, change, and evolve on the rehearsal floor.”
Book your tickets for this fun-filled family-friendly production that promises to be an enchanting day out at the theatre. A great way to introduce a young audience to the world of live performance.
