The annual Turbine Art Fair (TAF) returns to Joburg for its ninth edition this spring, happening live and online from September 30 to October 3. After hosting a virtual art fair in 2020, this year the fair returns in a 'hybrid' format.

At the 2021 fair online viewing rooms, exhibitions and an online buying platform in partnership with Artsy are joined by a physical fair, the TAF Arcade, happening over four days in Illovo. Visitors to the TAF Arcade can look forward to a return to the sociable and accessible TAF experience that has made this art fair one of South Africa's favourites.

Tickets for the TAF 2021 hybrid fair are now on sale. Get yours here!

At this year's fair you can expect a brilliant return to everything that has always made this such a popular art event. On display at the fair in Illovo is an array of exhibitions by local contemporary art galleries from across the country and the wider southern African region, as well as specially commissioned installations.

Exciting new projects to look out for this year include exhibitions from this year's TAF Unearthed artists, a TAF initiative that every year provides space for emerging artists to create and exhibit new works for the fair. As always there's also a rich programme of art talks by leading artists and thinkers to look forward to and of course a return to the fantastic social atmosphere that always makes TAF so special.

Now in its ninth year, TAF is an important voice representing the work of predominantly young and emerging artists and has successfully created an accessible art platform that attracts a diverse community of art admirers and collectors. The fair is known for presenting works both large and small across a range of prices, that usually start under R5000, making collecting art affordable, accessible and, with a lively and sociable atmosphere, a lot of fun too.

TAF founder Glynis Hyslop explains that the fair was moved from winter to spring to maximise the possibility of hosting a physical fair as opposed to a purely digital one.

"We have all be so isolated from each other and the amazing experiences normally on offer throughout the year. We believe art needs to be viewed and enjoyed in person. TAF is not just an art fair but a lifestyle experience and we hope that by moving the dates we will be able to bring a much-needed cultural experience to Jozi".
