Seemingly by miracle, Kraków escaped the total destruction suffered by Warsaw and many other Polish cities at the hands of the Nazis during WWII. What was the atmosphere in the city during the last days of peace? How was the start of the war felt in Kraków? Was there any damage? Why was Kraków, the former Austrian stronghold from the time of World War I, left undefended? Who was responsible for these decisions? Who did ultimately save Kraków? The exhibition aims to address these, and many other questions pertaining to the events that began on the 1st of September, 1939.
