Pijalnia Wódki i Piwa

  ul. Floriańska 34 ,   Old Town          (+48) 12 422 80 75     more than a year ago

Well-positioned on the Old Town's high street, Pijalnia’s around the clock crowds make it hard to miss. Flooded inside and out with students and street urchins, Pijalnia seems to be at the forefront of this tried and trendy formula: offer cheap drinks (5zł and up) and a small menu of traditional vodka and beer snacks (12/13zł) in dingy environs that conjure communist nostalgia while simultaneously being a subtle backlash against the increasing cost and ostentation of the city's nightlife. Did we get that right? Essentially the anti-cocktail lounge, Pijalnia's faithful have us in the fold for being one of the city's most fun destinations at (almost) any time of day or night (they only close for two hours in the morning), and for making vodka blindness cool again. Finally. Also at ul. Szewska 20 and Pl. Nowy 7.

This is a great little bar which is packed morning, noon and night with locals. It offers a good value Polish 'tapas' menu around the clock. Just be aware that it can get quite rowdy later on especially of a weekend. Still, if you're after an authentic Polish eatery 2014-style then this place would be hard to beat. Highly recommended.

My sons were in the bar last night when they were suddenly attacked by the bouncers one bouncer held my youngest son by the neck against the wall while the other bouncer punched my eldest son to the floor then the bouncer holding my son by the neck let him free and joined in beating my eldest son. This was completely unprovoked and the bar staff did nothing to help them. This was absolutely disgusting. This happens too often in Poland and I am certainly taking this further. My eldest son works in Poland and his brother went to spend the weekend with him. They didn't deserve that!

Superb atmosphere, unfeasibly low drink and food prices...claustrophobia is definitely the order of the day (and night) in this mega-popular wee bar. Try the zurek soup when taking a break from the vodka shots, two bowls will get you hooked!
