Kraków's buzziest restaurant - the place everyone is trying to get a table at - Bufet KRK.
The second restaurant concept from Przemysław Klima - the only chef in Poland to receive 2 Michelin stars - Bufet tones down the prestige and intimacy of his acclaimed Bottiglieria 1881 to a simple bistro with white tiled walls, communist-era canteen cups and a boisterous vibe lead by the large staff. In fact, Bufet could be mistaken for a PRL-era lunch bar if it wasn't for the modern open kitchen set-up, happy staff and food so surprising and delicious it stops time. Indeed, this place is so popular and pleasing that they have to enforce time limits on the tables! The menu here resurrects Polish classics like blood pudding and the amazing 'Karpatka' cake (must-try), while reinventing others like the 'Mac&cheese' croquettes and adding oysters, halibut ceviche, Iberico pork loin and other grilled meats to the mix. Obviously the wine list is top notch, but the vibe suggests you select from their signature cocktails.
While everything is thoroughly delicious, it should be noted that there isn't much for vegetarians or people with dietary restrictions, and the dining area is quite noisy, making Bufet better for social dates than romance. Enjoy attentive service at one of the many tables, or sit along the counter with a full view of the kitchen staff as they work their magic. You'll do neither without making a reservation, and you may even need to do it days in advance. The prices are not cheap, so brace yourself, or drop in after dinner hours for dessert and drinks. You won't be disappointed.
