This open-air exhibit on the square in front of the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre presents 10 sculptural works by Czesław Dźwigaj - a local professor at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts and artist well-known for authoring many monuments around the city, including of Pope John Paul II and Piotr Skargi. The works on display here - part of a series called 'Polish Gymnastics' - are less literal, and create a collective portrait of Polish society by showing various ways that Poles cope and sustain themselves when confronted with the vicissitudes of fate, which history has not spared them. Over 10 pieces, ranging from 1.5 to 3 meters in height, the artist probes the Polish character, sense of humour and national condition.
