In cooperation with the Hungarian Institute of Culture, this exhibit at the Galicia Jewish Museum presents a seldom-examined aspect of World War I: the participation of between 275,000 and 400,000 Jewish soldiers in the Austro-Hungarian Army. Via objects, archival photos and memorabilia borrowed from Hungarian museum collections, the exhibit specifically focuses on Hungarian Jewish soldiers in battles on the Eastern Front, including the historical, social and religious contexts of their military engagement, and their contact with the Jewish civilians of Galicia.
