The Cracovian Festival of Young Wine follows a tradition of Saint Martin's Day (Nov. 11th), symbolised by tasting young wine and savouring roast goose. St. Martin’s Day historically has been associated with the end of the harvest, followed by winery owners visiting their winemakers on this day and tasting the new wine. Then, according to the quality of the wine, they would decide whether or not they would prolong the contract with the winemaker for the following year. Provided the wine was good and the contract was prolonged, there would be a good reason to celebrate. Thus the tradition of the St. Martin celebrations with wine tasting and goose commenced. Kraków's Festival of Young Wine embraces that tradition offering the new wine and the most delicious Polish goose, consumed while listening to music.
