This festival’s roots date back to the mid-eighties when a series of open-air concerts were laid on with the aim of revitalising the old city centre, they provided a firm structure for what we know today as the Imago Sloveniae International Festival. In the early years the focus was on classical music but jazz has been gaining popularity and there are also regular collaborations with local institutions such as the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, National Theatre Opera and Ballet, and RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra and Big Band. The programme of over 50 events runs from June - September and some of the best Slovenian and international musicians will perform at some of the country's most important heritage sites.
