As the Golden Polish Autumn, with its abundance of colours, will set on Poznań this fall, very fittingly lovers of art will have a chance to discover the magic of colours as seen and produced by the greatest artists of the French fin de siecle. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Auguste Renoire, Alfons Mucha are among the fin de siecle greats, whose works will be displayed in Centrum Kultury Zamek at Poznań’s Castle starting from September. The exhibition, named „Triumphe of the Colours” will take us on a journey through means and methods of using colour in different artistic trends of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, which turned graphics into a noble and respected artform. While graphics were previously limited to using white and black, the end of the century brought about a real boom in this art form, ennobling it and turning peintres graveurs
into celebrities. The exhibition will include more than 100 graphic works (among them litography, wood engravings, etchnigs) from the greatest French artists (or those associated with France) of the belle epoque. Apart from the greats listed earlier, the line-up will include such classics as: Pierre Bonnard, Jules Chéret, Maurice Denis, Eugène Grasset, Henri Gabriel Ibels, Auguste Lepère, Lucien Pissarro, Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, Paul-Élie Ranson, Henri Rivière , Paul Signac, Édouard Vuillard, Jacques Villon, as well as those associated with France: Georges de Feure, Félicien Rops and Alfred Sisley.
The works that are to be displayed in Poznań come from the largest collection of modern French graphics in Poland kept at the National Museum in Kraków. The bulk of the works come from the collection of Feliks Jasieński a notable collector and patron of art. The exhibition will be accompanied by an educational programme, including classes, lectures, workshops.
