Frombork is around 90km from the centre of Gdansk and can be reached by bus or car in under 2 hours, although at press time this journey could take markedly longer due to huge roadworks on the Gdańsk – Elbląg S7 route. Between mid-May and mid-September there is also a passenger ferry service which runs from Krynica Morska giving you a more scenic approach to the town.
By Bus
You can’t actually travel directly to Frombork from Gdańsk but instead you need to change at Elbląg. There are regular buses throughout the day and total travelling time should also be around 2 hours (not including waiting time). Buses leave from Gdansk’s PKS bus station (Dworzec PKS) to Elbląg at 15-45 minute periods through the day. Tickets cost 14zł for the express bus (travel time about 1 hour) and 15-16zł for regular bus (travel time about 1.5 hours). The first bus leaves Gdansk at 05:50 and the last 21:05. From Elbląg buses run to Frombork every 1-2 hours leaving the main bus station between 05:40 and 20:10. Tickets for this stretch will cost 10.60zł and travel time is approximately 30-40 minutes.
Return buses to Elbląg depart Frombork between 04:45 and 19:15 and from Elbląg to Gdansk between 05:00 and 19:45.
By Car
Take the S7 out of Gdańsk in the direction of Warsaw and turn off just before you reach Elbląg onto the 504. Route 504 takes you all the way into the centre of Frombork. Depending on the traffic (and it can be quite bad at times at the moment while major construction of a new road connecting Gdańsk and Elbląg continues), the journey takes somewhere in region of 90-120 minutes.
By Ferry
One option is to approach Frombork by water and you can do that in summer by driving out onto the Vistula Spit from where ferries sail across the lagoon, either from Krynica Morska or Piasków.
