"Gdańsk is generous, Gdańsk shares its wealth and goodness, Gdańsk wants to be a city of solidarity. I would like to thank you all for your generosity because you donated money, you were the volunteers. This is a wonderful time to share the wealth. You are the best, and Gdańsk is the most wonderful city in the world. Thank you!"

These were the last words of President of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz during the 2018 Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, right before he was stabbed to death on stage. Due to these tragic circumstances, the finale carries extra poignancy in Gdańsk as a tribute to the former mayor and the locals due their best to honour him and live up to his words under the motto of "Gdańsk shares its Wealth and Goodness."

The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (known as WOŚP in Polish) is Poland's largest non-profit charity organisation, which has raised billions of złoty to buy new medical equipment for the Polish health system since it began in 1993. In 2025 alone, WOŚP raised over 289 million PLN! In 2026, the primary cause is fighting digestive diseases in children. Each year's annual campaign ends with the WOŚP Grand Finale - a final fundraising push that gives everyone - including you! - the opportunity to donate and help them continue their record-breaking streak. On this day you'll see volunteers with cardboard collection boxes all over town and the charity's iconic red heart stickers on nearly everyone you see, indicating that they donated. Don't be that guy/gal that doesn't have one.

Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Finale in Gdańsk, 2026

The Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP) is not just a nationwide fundraiser, but a full day of free concerts, activities and community events. In Gdańsk, the main WOŚP stage is once again planned for Plac Solidarności, beside the European Solidarity Centre, a location well suited to large crowds and a festival atmosphere. From about 17:30 and into the evening, visitors can expect live performances by well-known Polish artists, local acts and DJs, along with food stalls, charity auctions and the presence of hundreds of volunteers collecting donations.
Names confirmed so far are singer Roksana Węgiel, pop rockers Feel, and Lonely Dogs.  — a band also scheduled to play as part of the concert lineup The day traditionally culminates in the symbolic Światełko do Nieba (“Light to the Sky”) fireworks around 20:00, followed by further concerts and events. With its open-air, rock-festival feel and free entry (donations encouraged), the WOŚP Finale is one of the most uplifting and inclusive events on Gdańsk’s winter calendar — well worth experiencing.
