The province of Saskatchewan is exactly as its name suggests: lost in the Canadian prairie. Two times the land-size of Poland and an entire population barely more than Wrocław's, the Canadian state is huge, abundant in nature and silent - This is where The Dead South hail from. It's somewhat ironic that the group has mustered together such a mighty sound, mixing folk, neo-folk and bluegrass at their foundations. Their latest album, Illusion & Doubt, has the group expanding on their original sound, incorporating more rock, alternative, and some crasser, punkier influences like The Pogues. While aiming to be more energetic and fun with their music, they still manage to balance the high-tempo bluegrass end of things (Dead Man's Isle, One-Armed Man) with slower ballads (The Good Lord, Gunslinger's Glory) and all the while maintaining a great sense of humour!
