This monthly event brings science out of the lab and into the bar, combining molecular cocktails and live jazz with interesting lectures and talks on topics as varied as astrophysics, genetics, paleoancestry, and dung beetles. After the talk, enjoy a special crafted smoky cocktail and chill out to the sounds of the resident jazz band.

Tue June 19: Bugs for breakfast?
What role can insects play in feeding a rapidly increasing global population? How can they be used to break down waste and are they safe and environmentally friendly to eat? In this month's edition of Science & Cocktails Dr. Elsje Pieterse discusses the various valuable uses of insects, including as protein for humans, feed for animals and as a way to combat the world's increasing amounts of waste. Dr. Pieterse will also be discussing her current line of research which looks at how insect-derived 'natural antibiotics' or enzymes could be used to heal diabetic ulcers, to combat avian flu and even as part of the disinfection of botulism and anthrax-contaminated carcasses.
