For Emergent Properties artists Driaan Claassen and Catherine Ash look at complex natural structures and how they emerge as a result of smaller individual elements interacting. Taking place in Nirox's Covered Space the exhibition includes a range of work produced while the artist were in residence at the Villa-Legodi Centre for Sculpture. The works reflect both Claassen and Ash's interest in psychology and neurology as they draw parallels between antills and neural pathways creating beautifully intricate sculptures which reflect these complex structures. Their focus on the intermeshing of neural pathways sheds light on the inner workings of the mind, with the artists addressing issues related to mental health and well-being.
