Especially timed to coincide with the festive season, Joburg's favourite independent cinema, The Bioscope in Maboneng, presents another cult classic this week as part of their 'you've never seen...?' series, the iconic 1980s Christmas comedy-horror Gremlins. 

Randall Peltzer visits a Chinatown antique store in the hope of finding a Christmas present for his son Billy. In the store, he encounters a small, furry creature called a mogwai which the owner refuses to sell. Of course, the store owner's grandson is not so cautious and foolishly sells mogwai to Randall on the sly, giving him an important tip that he must never expose the cute critter to bright lights or sunlight, not let it come in contact with water, and most importantly of all, to never feed it after midnight. Poor mogwai of course doesn't make it far before getting wet and hungry and rapidly spawns an army of flesh-eating gremlins which wreak havoc across the town.
