Joburg Heritage is an advocacy organisation led by activist Flo Bird, with guns blazing in the direction of those who threaten the city’s heritage. For the past three decades, the foundation has sought to protect the city’s historical buildings from poor bureaucratic decisions and rapacious developers.

Join Johannesburg Heritage Foundation on a walking tour of Victoria Yards, a creative hub on the eastern side of the city, that explores the area's unique industrial history and architecture and looks at its remarkable recent restoration. Located in a complex of restored industrial buildings in the gritty suburb of Lorentzville, Victoria Yards is home to an expansive urban farm and community of makers, artists and artisans whose talents span everything from jewellery design and furniture-making to fashion, craft beer and baking. This tour takes place during the monthly Victoria Yards First Sundays event when the area's artists open their studios to the public, so make sure to stick around after the tour to get lunch and browse the pop-up market.

The tour starts at the entrance to Victoria Yards at the corner of Viljoen and Victoria Streets. Booking is essential.
