How to go green, recycle waste, reduce plastics and increase environmental awareness are some of the biggest issues currently facing modern South Africa. Join in an environmental talk led by Dr Melanie Samson at Origins Centre discussing the essential role being played by the city's waste reclaimers, also known as waste pickers and informal recyclers, in the recycling of the city's abundant waste material.

Dr Samson argues that reclaimers in South Africa have created an extensive informal recycling system and that their contributions to the economy, environment and society ought to be noted and their manpower and expertise brought into the ongoing conversations about how to tackle major environmental issues.
