ToyZone Kids Cycle Race at Melrose Arch

Sunday May 26 08:00–12:00       Melrose Blvd, Melrose

The annual ToyZone Kids’ Cycle Race at Melrose Arch is a fun event for the whole family. Held at Melrose Arch's piazza it's also a great way to help raise money for an important cause, the Smile Foundation, a South African NGO that assists children with treatable facial anomalies such as facial paralysis, cleft lip and cleft palate, cranofacial abnormalities, as well as ear, nose and hand conditions, and burn wounds.

Catering for kids from three months (in a pram on course) to 13 years old, kids can join the race in four age categories: Ducklings (3 months to 3 years), Bunnies (4-6 years), Foxes (7-9 years) and Lions (10 to 13 years). Prams, scooters, tricycles and bicycles are welcome, and parents may accompany their children around the circuit or, in the case of Foxes and Lions, cycle with them.

Registration opens at 08:00 and parents can register their children an hour before their respective age categories. The Ducklings are on the starting line at 09:00, Bunnies line up at 09.45, Foxes at 10.30 and the Lions at 11.15. The Ducklings will cycle one lap of 1,2km, Bunnies two laps, Foxes three laps and Lions five laps.

Every participating child gets a goodie bag and a medal upon completing the race, and there will be spot prizes up for grabs throughout the morning as well as lucky draws in which two Diamondback bicycles can be won. Once children have finished cycling, there's plenty of fun kids’ activities to enjoy on the Melrose Arch Piazza.
