Formerly known as 'Alternatywny 4', we assume the numeral was dropped to appease a legal complaint related to the comedic Polish serial of the same name, which satirised the communist reality of the early '80s. Hardly as clever as its namesake, descend some of the most dangerous stairs in Kraków into this dark, sprawling student bar with little in the way of decor, save for a few edgy, urban art touches. There's certainly plenty of space here, including two bars, two seasonal gardens (both open from 11:00 on sunny days), a large smoking section and a stage area in the back which sadly seems to be collecting cobwebs. A subtly hip hangout, DJs drop beats in the front room on weekends, but generally it seems there's little happening here to distinguish Alternatywny from any other Cracovian cellar bar.
