Klub Piękny Pies

  Pl. Wolnica 9 ,   Kazimierz         17 Apr 2024

Everyone who knows Kraków knows 'The Beautiful Dog,' whether they lived here 20 years ago or just arrived. Now in its fourth location, this cult drink tank still impossibly features the same familiar cast of unwashed artists, Dylan Thomas impersonators, cougar vampires, counter-culture cuties and hard-living ex-pats; and still offers the same great playlist of indie hits, new wave and electronic music that keeps the dancing spontaneous rather than obligatory on weekdays, while weekends host concerts and DJs. With several bars over the narrow ground floor and vast maze of underground cellars - where chainsmoking is still perfectly acceptable - it's just as easy as ever to get lost in the sauce here, only to stumble out onto the broken glass and blinding gaze of broad daylight. One of the best choices in Kraków if you want a late night but not a 'nightclub,' aint a damn thing changed. Love it.

I lived in Kraków for two years. This was literally the only place in town that played music that I liked.

I''ve seen a few shows at Piękny Pies - it is a really nice venue for a small, intimate show. There are booths and tables as well as a large space for standing. The drinks are average - no better or worse than you''ll find at any other dive-y bar. But as far as a show goes, the sound has always been exceptional in my experience. There are bigger venues, and fancier venues - but Piękny Pies is a real music lovers venue. Definitely catch a show there when you''re in town.
We went, expecting good things. What we got was an almost empty bar with terrible music and awful watery spirits. Maybe we just went on a bad day, but putting out his cigarette, coming inside and serving patrons was clearly a bit too much trouble for the sole barman. have heard from people that weekend nights are much better. maybe we'll give it another shot.
