Kraków Film Music Festival (FMF)

Tuesday May 23 - Tuesday May 30

Some of the best symphonic music today is composed for film, and it often goes without due recognition outside the world of cinematography. Luckily, since it can and does stand alone, film music concerts and festivals have grown substantially in popularity. This annual festival devoted to music specifically composed for, or popularised in, films has become one of Poland's most recognisable cultural exports, featuring a rich programme of live performances, open-air film screenings, and festival cycles like 'Dance2Cinema,' 'Scoring4Polish Directors' and 'Cinema Chorale.' As the festival evolves and grows it is also expanding its horizons beyond music exclusively from films to music from TV dramas, computer games and other sources within audiovisual culture.

2023 marks the 16th edition of the festival and will honour Polish film composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek with a special award and concerts of his film scores (Finding Neverland, Quo Vadis, Hachiko: A Dog's Story), as well as the 550th birth anniversary of Copernicus with a cosmic theme and concerts of the best science fiction film scores, plus a screening of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial with a live orchestra. Hans Zimmer will also be in attendance and conduct the Odessa Opera Orchestra & Friends in a concert of his most famous works. The full programme can be found online.
