Felix Mendelssohn wrote the concert Overture in 1826 at only 17 years old after reading a German translation of Shakespeare's famous play. It has been called "the greatest marvel of early maturity that the world has ever seen in music." A few years before his death, Mendelssohn wrote music for a production of the play, into which he incorporated the existing Overture. The Kraków Opera's performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream is choreographed by Giorgio Madia, and music is performed by the Opera Choir and Orchestra led by Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski.
