Jan Matejko was a Polish painter known for paintings of notable historical Polish political and military events. He is referred to as the "national painter" of Poland. Among his large oil paintings was the canvas "Zamoyski at Byczyna" which burnt down during the WWII. It is this painting that was reconstructed as the large embroided canvas and is currently on display at Pałac Sztuki ( The Palace of Fine Arts). The artwork is the result of 13 years of tedious work of 7 artists.
