For those in Nowa Huta looking for a literal taste of the PRL era without resorting to a milk bar, this is arguably your best option (though Stylowa would like to have a word...). Formerly known as 'Skarbnica Smaku,' this modest rebrand refocuses the menu on their wide selection of excellent stuffed dumplings, while still offering many of the traditional staples of Polish comfort food. Rather than reinvent classics like beetroot soup or breaded pork cutlets, Między Pierogami saves its creative energy for close to two dozen sweet or savoury pierogi fillings, ranging from 'broad bean, bacon and chicken' to 'beetroot, gorgonzola and nuts.' With a special kids menu, weekday lunch specials and a wide range of drinks, Między Pierogami ably serves the needs of both tourists and locals, including large groups, who are catered for on the spacious mezzanine level.

Located right on Plac Centralny, for over fifty years this space was home to the 'Skarbnica' bookshop, and - though the closure of that institution was a bit of a local tragedy - the interior retains some nods to its past life with a few bookshelves still intact, original light fixtures, historical photos and a map of the district. Though things are kept quite casual, the soaring ceilings and windows still give off a spacious and imposing grandeur, and in summer there is a large sidewalk patio. Overall, Między Pierogami pays homage to Nowa Huta's past without being too stuck in it, and is one of your better bets for a decent meal in the area.
