Wierzchowska Górna Cave

  Wierzchowie      (+48) 12 411 07 21     more than a year ago

Covering approximately 1,000 metres of underground labyrinths, this was one of the first caves in Europe to open to the public. Evidence of Neolithic life found here includes tools and the skeleton of a cave bear; today the biggest attractions are the community of bats (mainly Horseshoe species) and the Cave Spiders which although venomous are not dangerous.

About 17km northwest of Kraków just shy of Ojców, if you don't have a car you can get there from the centre of Kraków by taking a tram from Plac Inwalidów to 'Bronowice Male,' where you'll transfer to bus 210, getting off at 'Biały Kościoł' (requested stop). On leaving the bus, cross the street and follow the signs to 'Jaskinia Wierzchowska Górna;' it's about a 15min walk. If you choose this option, make sure you buy a 60min/5zł transport ticket good for zones 1 and 2.
