This exhibit tells the sordid story of the colossal monument of Comrade Vladimir Lenin that trod upon Nowa Huta's main thoroughfare from 1973 to 1989. Over those 16 years it was repeatedly vandalised and subjected to bomb attempts before being triumphantly torn down and shipped to Sweden. The exhibit details not only the history of the monument and the people of Nowa Huta's strained relationship with it - including the infamous 'Peeing Lenin' sculpture by Małgorzata and Bartosz Szydłowski - but also looks more broadly at the mythologising of Soviet heroes with monuments, and how former Soviet countries have dealt with their legacy since the fall of the Iron Curtain.
