The Coalmarket square, normally a cobbled car park at the entrance to the old town, will be converted into a huge fan zone holding up to 5,000 people for the month of the World Cup this summer. In previous championships the organisers have limited themselves to showing Poland games, the semi-finals and the final only but with the hope that many fans with tickets for matches in neighbouring Kaliningrad will either stay or visit Gdansk, they may decide to show more matches this time around.

Poland play their group games against Senegal on June 19 at 17:00; Columbia on June 24 at 20:00 and Japan on June 28 at 16:00 local time. On the 28th, the Fan Zone will remain open after the Poland v Japan game to show the Group G clash between England and Belgium at 20:00 local time. If Poland advance to the knockout stage, the Fan Zone will open for those games too.
