Linking Granary Island with the eastern edge of the Old Town, Stągiewny Bridge has connected both sides of the New Motława for centuries in one form or another. Its name comes from the nearby Stągiewna Gate, whose distinctive tower once reminded locals of milk cans (stągwie).

Over the years, the crossing evolved from a medieval drawbridge into revolving steel structures, tram routes and a fixed-bridge form. Ironically, it reopened as a modernised drawbridge in 2022, blending historical references with contemporary design while offering one of the more pleasant waterside walks between the city centre and the redeveloped Granary Island district.
