100k follower giveaway: Johannesburg In Your Pocket's biggest fan competition on Instagram

14 Jan 2026

Love Joburg as much as we do? We are thrilled to have reached 100,000 followers on Instagram and, as our thanks to you, our biggest fan is about to win it all: a blockbuster collection of prizes worth more than R25,000 so you can celebrate the city in true style. Here's what you need to know to enter Johannesburg In Your Pocket's 100K biggest fan competition – and what you stand to win.

Johannesburg rarely sits still, and neither do we. For over a decade, Johannesburg In Your Pocket (JIYP) has been mapping, documenting, and delighting in a city that reinvents itself faster than any guidebook can keep up with. What began in 2013 as a 68-page print magazine, hand-delivered across the city, soon grew into trusted neighbourhood mini-guides and a go-to city companion for locals and visitors alike. Spotting a gap in how the city was being understood and shared, we launched concierge walks across different neighbourhoods, connecting hotels and ambassadors of the city more meaningfully to their surroundings.

Then, in 2020, everything changed. The Covid-19 pandemic brought printing to a halt, and we moved fully online. The city shifted and so did we, becoming more immediate and more digital, while staying true to our mission of making Joburg accessible, legible, and loveable. Along the way, there were Red Bus city adventures with photographers, bubbly stops with bloom-filled views on Munro Drive, and, in 2023, the launch of our first fully fledged #JacarandaInYourPocket event series, which has now expanded to photo walks, high teas, rooftop tours, helicopter flips, and even a jacaranda-inspired running club takeover. Our latest expansion in urban storytelling is “Jo” – the JHB In Your Pocket GPT, an AI-powered city companion designed exclusively for Joburg.

We never stopped publishing our weekly newsletter, and today our community has grown to 100,000 strong on Instagram. And honestly? That deserves more than a quiet thank you. So we’re celebrating the only way we know how by giving back to the people who’ve been discovering the city with us all along.
