100 black and white photographs of 7 series, made between 1982 and 2014 in South Africa, comment on some of the most common archetypal states of the human psyche and lead from darkness to light, from absurdity to irony, from despair to release.
Roger Balan was born in New York, USA in 1950 and has lived in Johannesburg, South Africa for more than 30 years. Roger Balland is in the museum collections of MOMA (New York), Tate Britton (London), Victoria and Albert (London), the Pushkin Museum (Moscow), Pompidou (Paris) and many others.
