St. Casimir's feast day has been celebrated in Vilnius since the early 17th century, and Poznań's Lithuanian community continues this tradition with pageantry, a procession and a cultural fair on Plac Wolności. The event actually begins at 10:00 with a special mass at the Fara Church at ul. Gołębia 1. At 11:30 historical re-enactors dressed as the Jagiellonian dynasty will present themselves from the loggia of Poznań Town Hall, and after the 12:00 hejnał, the royal procession - including Bołesław Chrobry, the first King of Poland - will make its way with much fanfare from the Market Square to Plac Wolności, where the fair will already be underway.
At the Kaziuk Fair on Plac Wolności you can to find an array of Lithuanian specialty foods and products, Easter palms and plenty of hand-made goods. Meanwhile, a parade of folk groups will be storming the stage with song and dance in traditional costumes. It's a folk fest with a Lithuanian twist and one of Poznań's most endearing end of winter events.
