Krzysztof Wodiczko | The Sky above Krakow: LGBT Speak Out

Friday Sep 24 - Sunday Sep 26       Rynek Główny
share
Organised by MOCAK, this project by Krzysztof Wodiczko doesn't take place in a gallery, but in the public space of Kraków's market square. Wodiczko's work seeks to shine a light on groups that are marginalised by society in the very communities they live in. His third work in Kraków, the first two focused on domestic violence against women, and the trauma of soldiers returning from the War in Afghanistan. For this timely project Wodiczko uses drone technology to give a public voice to Kraków's LGBTQIA community. Several drones will be equipped with LED screens and megaphones, from which various speakers from the LGBT community will tell their stories. On the screens only the eyes of the speakers will be shown, in sync with the audio. In this way, the drones will slightly resemble human faces, and the eyes also effectively communicate the emotional tenor of what is being said and heard. Performances will take place in the vicinity of the Town Hall Tower at 20:30, 21:00 and 21:30.
