In total, at least 31,000 people were imprisoned in the camp between January 1943 and September 1944 for shorter or longer durations. Alongside Jews were other unlucky souls, mostly Roma (Gypsies), resistance activists and Jehovah’s witnesses. Of these people, 421 children, women and men died in the camp from hunger, disease, and maltreatment; 329 prisoners were shot just outside the camp.
But for the majority of the prisoners, Herzogenbusch Concentration Camp was an intermediate stop. From here they were transported to other camps, which, in most cases, meant death. Take a train, taxi or local bus No. 203 from ’s-Hertogenbosch Central Station to the Lunettenlaan stop. The museum is open on Mondays in the months July and August (12.00–17.00).
Admission: donations.

What can you say after hearing so much tragedy? Only a big, big, big compliment to the people running this great museum. They deserve a medal for bringing this painful history back to our minds so we will never ever forget these dark days.
