Aladza Monastery is one of the most important historical places in the North-Eastern part of Bulgaria. It is a medieval Orthodox-Christian cave complex dedicated to the Holy Trinity and is situated 17 km north of central Varna. It was built around the 12th century but was abandoned three centuries later. The name of the monastery "Aladzha" comes from a Persian or Arabic word and means "motley, colourful"
The place is great for an inspirational walk through history. You have to know that there are no hotels, hostels, restaurants or cafes nearby, so take snacks and drinks with you. You can reach the monastery by bus or by car.
