Zagreb’s main train station is in the final stages of getting a full facelift, and some other welcome changes are going on in Croatia’s railway network. The website now has a link to the international pages of the German Deutsche Bahn site, where you can search for all local and international services covering Croatia. Croatian Railways have also just bought six ultra-modern tilting trains, which should be able to reach top speeds of 170km/h once vital work on the tracks has (hopefully) been completed sometime this year. This should reduce the journey time from Zagreb to Split, for example, from about 8 hours to less than five hours.
Desi Guy - San Francisco, California, USA 12 December 2008 On my recent visit to Zagreb, Croatia; I traveled by EuroNight Zurich-Belgrade Express. This is a direct train from Zurich, Switzerland via Zagreb GLK to Belgrade, Serbia. Upon arrival in Zagreb GLK, few things foreign travelers should note. Ticket counters, Domestic & International ticket counters are separate and agents do not speak any foreign language such as English, German, etc. thus making it difficult to communicate. Zagreb GLK (Main Station) is reasonable and main tourist attractions are a short walk from the train station. While feeling somewhat un-safe at Zagreb GLK, foreign travelers should never let their guard down. The station could use better facilities, smoke free areas, etc.
