When you have special requirements for food travelling to unknown lands can be a bit tricky, luckily, this Europe's metropolis is up to date with both the latest trends in cuisine, such as freshly picked fruit and veggies, as well as special diets that some practice, like vegan and vegetarian food. Most of the vegan restaurants use fresh and organic produce, and have gluten ad dairy free options. But there are also some restaurants that are not vegan, yet offer vegan options to their guests.
Located in the heart of Tivoli Garden, Gemyse is a vegetarian restaurant that serves exclusively organic food from the local company and their own garden. In case you'd rather have some meat on your plate, you can ask them to add fish or meat to your meal. In addition to their great food, they also offer do it yourself experience, in their kitchen garden, where you can make popcorn or roast marshmallows.
The café is very small and often completely full, but nevertheless cosy. They have amazing sandwiches and traditional Danish pastry on their menu, as well as vegan options. Our favourites are their juices, made from organic fruits and absolutely divine. Very attentive staff will make sure that you feel completely taken care of, though if you are in a rush you can have your food to go.
For all who love Thai food, Khun Juk is a real treat. Located in the very center of the city, yet, somehow, the place manages to stay private and very romantic. One would expect the staff in an Asian restaurant to be polite, but these guys take it to a whole new level, being always helpful and constantly smiling. Make sure to leave some room for authentic Thai sweets.
Located in Freetown Christiania, Morgenstedet is one of the favourite eateries of all who like vegan food. Everything there is made from organic produce, and there is one very interesting thing about this place, it's based on voluntary work, therefore the tastes vary depending on the cook on duty. They have self-service, and it would be a good idea to clean your table when you finish. After all, the prices are so low, due to these facts.
In the very heart of Copenhagen, you can find SimpleRAW, and yes the name says it all, they have raw dishes. Aside from that they also have cakes and beverages, including juices, smoothies and organic wine, and all can be ordered as takeaway. Their food is made from fruits and veggies, nuts, grains and leaf-green, but without sugar, yeast, dairy and gluten products, colourings or additives.
We know what you're thinking, but stop. The place is located in the centre of Copenhagen, across the canal from Thorvaldsens Museum (you don't have to swim across, there's a bridge). These guys offer burgers for everyone, even vegans, how cool is that? The venue inside looks like an American diner, but their yard, working all-year-round (with heath during the cold days), is the best place to take a seat.
If you find yourself in the middle of Vesterbro, and want to grab a bite, you know where to go! Well, you probably don't, that’s why you're here, but you can check out Tommi's Burger Joint. It is located in Meatpacking district, the venue is hipster-looking, but they have good cheap burgers and burger menus, even vegan burgers.
If you're looking for a very classy vegan restaurant, that is pretty much the description of VeVe. This Michelin-starred restaurant is located in a transformed warehouse in Østerbro, not far from the Little Mermaid Statue. The place is not too big, with only 30 seats, but that makes it all the more private.
