Don’t miss the opportunity to visit some of North Macedonia’s small villages if you get the chance. Many of them stuck in a time-warp, and consequently still possessing not only some fine examples of traditional architecture but also a way of life that long disappeared elsewhere, most of the villages in the Polog region are populated by an Albanian majority and are all very welcoming to strangers. Experiment with roads less travelled and do try to have lunch or dinner at a restaurant in Vrutok where the Vardar springs from the side of the mountain.
