Holy Virgin Mary Scapular Church
[Švč. Mergelės Marijos Škaplierinės bažnyčia]
The first brick church in Druskininkai was completed in the 1844. Suffering a singularly strange career, the church didn’t get a priest until 1879, and was eventually demolished under puzzling circumstances in 1931, the same year the current church was completed. A red, neo-Gothic beauty, the building was designed by the Polish architect Stefan Szyller (1857-1933). Often only open for Mass, especially during the winter, the inside is fairly unspectacular with the exception of a repeating sequence of classic brick gothic arches throughout.
