Dominated by a huge needle-like monument this is one of the first Warsaw landmarks seen on the way from the airport. The towering monument features some interesting socialist reliefs depicting Red Army troops liberating Polish civilians, and the inscription reads ‘To the memory of the soldiers lost in the liberation of Poland 1944-1945’. Mass graves containing the remains of 20,000 soldiers flank each side of the memorial.
