The Royale

Inspired by The Royal Palm Hotel in Havana, the 1950s tropical playground of high rolling Americans, salsa music blares in the background and rum cocktails are de rigeur at The Royale, a fun Cuban-themed restaurant and bar.

As one might anticipate, the menu leans towards casual and uncomplicated dining, featuring classics like cubanos and burgers. However, their crispy cauliflower wings and chicharrón de pollo (fried chicken bites) are guaranteed crowd-pleasers, ideal for sharing but so delicious you might not want to. The drinks are refreshing and potent, capable of whisking you away to the lively streets of Havana. Choices are plenty, ranging from timeless cocktails such as Long Island Ice Teas and Mojitos to their playful concoctions like the Watermelon Spritz and the fruity Bacardi Mango Storm.

The Royale has undergone some changes with the renovation of The Speakeasy. It has transformed it's previous bright and beachy ambience to a darker, edgier setting. Within these sneaky confines is where they frequently host Slow Poison & Friends on First Thursdays – an event where table bookings are a necessity. However, what truly sets The Royale apart is its vivacious atmosphere and exceptional musical selection, creating an urge to linger longer. It's the ideal place to forge new connections, get a compliment on your outfit from the most fashionable people in Joburg, or simply make memories. This place has a cult following.
