Trg žrtava fašizma

Trg žrtava fašizma bb     more than a year ago
A large, nearly circular square that brings six streets together. Only a pawn in their game, the Victims of Fascism square was re-named Square of the Great Croatians in 1990, only to be returned to its former name in 2000. As is always the case, such changes were politically motivated: the gallery it houses (Dom hrvatskih likovnih umjetnika) was converted into a mosque by the nazi NDH in 1947 in an attempt to woo the Muslims into an alliance. This identity crisis manifests in a rather squirrelly square: it's nearly the trickiest set of roads and crosswalks for a pedestrian to negotiate without becoming a part of the pavement.
