Wooden Churches Trail of the Kozła Region
Just off road 304 northeast of Sulechów, the church in Klępsk is arguably the most spectacular timber construction in this part of Poland, and famous (internationally even) for its colourful interiors featuring rich wood carvings and 117 perfectly preserved Renaissance-era polychrome paintings. From there continue on 304 east towards Zbąszynek, hopping on road 302 to find the Church of Holy Apostles Simon & Jude Taddeus in Kosieczyn. Although more modest-looking than its Klępsko counterpart 18mins away, this one boasts bragging rights as the second oldest wooden church in all of Poland, dating back to 1407. From Kosieczyn it’s literally just a 2min drive further to the charming sacral complex in Chlastawa, which features a wooden belfry and entrance gate, a cemetery, an ancient and massive oak tree, and the former evangelical Protestant church with its lovely interior of floral motifs. If you're in this goaty region, don't miss out on these roadside wonders.
