Kildare was once home to the King of Leinster. Now it is more celebrated for its equine industry, so much so that it has sometimes been dubbed Ireland's 'Horse County'.

The county lies to the west of Dublin, and its proximity to the capital has led to the development of many commuter towns along the county borders. As a result there are good transport links, so it's a good spot to visit if you don't have much time to spare and would like to get out of the city.
