Situated approximately 10km north of the city near the town of Sarafovo, Burgas International Airport serves the Southeast of Bulgaria and provides convenient links to major airports such as Moscow, London, Tel Aviv, Manchester, St. Petersburg and Vienna. In the end of 2013, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management inaugurated a new modern passenger terminal with spacious areas for arriving and departing passengers, modern systems for baggage handling, attractive commercial zones, as well as comfortable open spaces. The terminal combines contemporary style with traditional elements of Bulgarian architecture and nature.
During the summer peak season, it serves the main resorts of the region, including Sunny Beach with a non stop flow of charter flights and tour operator buses. It is best to arrange for someone to meet you at the airport, if you are not travelling with an organised tour operator, as taxi drivers (although legally regulated) continue to try and rip off unsuspecting tourists. On the territory of the airport the taxi services are provided by “Eko taxi”. There is a regular public bus service into the centre of Burgas, which leaves from just outside Terminal 2 (you will need to buy a ticket for each piece of luggage as well) or you can try to hire a car from the car rental companies represented at the airport. Again it is advisable to arrange this in advance. Fully automated car parking facilities, give you 10 free minutes for quick drop off or pick up. Basic charge 2 leva per hour.
